HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR.. DO I ?

Have nothing to wear :/
Do I ?

It’s really hard for me to remember how many times I stood before my open wardrobe wracking my brains over the next best fit for the next time out but it’s always a dead end: There is nothing in there that I really like.

Let’s not lie to ourselves! We have all been there many times in the past, wondering at how something like this could even start to seem possible considering how many excruciating hours each one of us has spent, or worse, wasted on window or even actual shopping. Has it ever occurred to you that maybe, just maybe, we invested precious time and money in an outfit that on second thought seemed to be a passing fad, or even bought on an impulse which has now faded, leaving us with feelings of emptiness and frustration at yet another botched attempt at buying something supposedly ready to pop out every time we decide to open the wardrobe. You might say that we have fallen prey to so called bargains as we end up hoarding useless items, to be eventually consigned to the darkest recesses of wardrobes and closets, never meant to see the light of day again, let alone grace your body on a casual or formal occasion.

Try to look on the bright side, though it might well be that what you now call junk may turn out to be priceless if you look at it from a different angle. The “out of sight”, “out of mind”, principle reigns supreme when you take a more thorough look at how you personally arrange items in your wardrobe. More often than not, the pieces you keep behind have a way of sneaking into the front so they are clearly visible and get first pick when the time comes for a pair-up.

When I found myself clearing out my wardrobe, I was absolutely taken aback at how many items lay languishing in the dark, once thought of as hot favorites for dashing appearances any time during the day. They just lay there falling apart, not having been worn even once ever since I bought them. Matching this maxi coral dress with the proper accessories will definitely cut quite a figure at cocktail nights. These floral trousers, the beaded t-shirt, the gold-sequined blouse with the U-shaped back, the white one-shoulder dress can enjoy a new lease on life, given half the chance. It actually feels like coming back from shopping weighed down with dozens of bags filled with the latest word in fashion.

And going out of fashion doesn’t necessarily qualify as a cast-off. Cast-offs can stund out if rightly matched. Always keep in mind that it’s not one single item that makes the outfit memorable but the right, even if paradoxical at times, match.

On a different note, tiny modifications can transform a boring look into something novel-looking, even fascinating. Slit up old jeans and fold the bottom end up ankle-high and match it eather with espadrilles or ballerinas for a casual look or with high-heeled sandals to create a more formal outfit. Grab an old hoodie, tear off the sleeves and the waist to create a loose morning t-shirt, perfect with floral shorts for morning walks.

So, never give up hope; it’s never too late to create your own style just by using all those pieces whose existence has slipped you by. Fashion has a strange way of going round in circles. So yesterday’s trends must not be today's waste but tomorrow’s hope for a broad smile from a happy owner.

Kisses,
M.A.D
